Plea for proofreading

I've corrected Modes VIIIa and VIIIg according to Scott's suggestions; the new recordings are in the list at the bottom of the blog. This also makes me realize that the Lord's Prayer is all wrong, and I don't know how to correct it. The Fa clef thing really throws me, and the explanation in the MP doesn't make sense to me or to my wife. (What does "start with Fa" mean, if you don't know how Fa corresponds to notes on a keyboard or flute?)

Anybody interested in giving a listen and double checking our work?

One thing to remember in regards to the clefs is that it specifies relative intervals, so think in terms of intervals. The usual solfege corresponds to the C-major scale in modern thinking in this way:

(do) C
(re) D
(mi) E
(fa) F
(sol) G
(la) A
(si) B
(do) C

Note the half-steps between si-do and mi-fa, this lets you transpose onto a major scale that suits your voice. (You can see more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solfege)

Just keep in mind that the do is moveable, so it could be B♭, or D♯, or a note not even on our modern scale, you just have to keep the half steps and full steps in the same places.

If this doesn't make sense, feel free to email me. (I'm a student of this myself, and while I understand the theory — you don't want to hear my chanting yet. shudder)

I just listened to all of your mode recordings, and there's only one wrong note in the whole thing: the final note of IIIb should be a half-step higher.

The Our Father goes off track when you make the first note change down on "art" - need to go down a whole step, not a half. The rest might fall into place once that's fixed.

Great job! Thank you for this, and great news about Liturgical Institute putting recordings up on their Web site, too!
